Surgery
Surgeries are performed on certain weekdays by appointment. Please call 1 - 2 weeks in advance of when you would like the elective surgery scheduled for your pet. If your pet is not current on all vaccinations, we will need to update their vaccine status before admission into the hospital for all pets' health and safety while in our care. If vaccinations have been given by another veterinary hospital, please have your pet's vaccination history faxed to us before the appointment (best), or you may bring a written copy of the records with you. Your pet will be scheduled for a presurgical exam the day before surgery and will stay 2 nights in the hospital (the evening before and evening after surgery) to allow for the best recovery for your pet. Please plan to be present for this exam to allow the Dr. to discuss any health findings/recommendations with you and explain the risks involved. Some pets will require preanesthesia blood testing to ensure their safety. These tests usually take about 20 minutes to perform; please stay for the Dr. to discuss these results with you. You will be asked to read and sign a surgical consent form, please let our staff know of any additional procedures you would like to have done before signing this form. Unless otherwise instructed, there is no need for you to withhold food or water prior to your appointment; our staff will take care of all necessary precautions. Patients will be shaved at and around the surgical site and prepped with a disinfectant surgical scrub and solution just prior to surgery. You may call after 1:00 or 2:00 pm the day of surgery to get an update on your pet. Generally, your pet will be ready for pickup after 9:00 am the day after surgery (except for declaw surgeries and special situations). Please follow your pet's discharge instructions regarding exercise restriction and when to return for suture/staple removal.
